Australian Students Walk Out To Protest Climate Inaction

temp-post-image

It’s an essential truth: tomorrow’s world is in the hands of today’s children. It’s a bracing but hopeful thought, and recent events should give us all reason to be optimistic. Youth voting rates increased by around 10% in the midterm elections, and the number of grassroots movements being spearheaded by young people continues to surge.

These shifts signal an awakening in youth consciousness, a welcome and critical change. One group that is making waves is School Strike 4 Climate, which organized a massive school walkout in Australia on November 30th to protest inaction on climate change.

Thousands of kids participated, some as young as five years old. The group was inspired by a 15-year-old from Sweden named Greta Thunburg, who gained notoriety after protesting outside the Swedish parliament last fall. The group plans more marches and protests as we move into 2019; to learn more about these courageous students, read the Sierra Club article here.
