From Foster Care To The Film World: One Remarkable Path

Like many foster children, Johna Rivers has had a difficult path. Placed in foster care at the age of 9, she remained there until she reached adulthood. It's a recipe for struggle: according to a recent study, up to 25% of foster children go on to become homeless.

But Johna was determined to challenge those odds. She made it through school, and with a little help, into the world of film and the creative arts. And Johna wasn't finished: in 2015, she co-founded the Real to Reel Global Youth Film Festival to help kids make the same leap, and escape the cycle of poverty.
