Moving The Ball Forward: Haley Hoffman Smith And 'Her Big Idea'


Much is said about the gains that have been made by women in the business world in recent years, but things change slowly. Even today, only 17 percent of startups have a female founder, and just a tiny amount of overall VC money goes to those companies.

Thankfully, there has been increasing interest in the need to make entrepreneurship more female-friendly. Haley Hoffman Smith, a recent graduate of Brown University, is one very encouraging example. She recently released her second book, Her Big Idea, and simultaneously created “Her Big Idea Fund,” which awards grants to women working to create their own innovative companies. The fund will receive half of the book’s profits–and that's just for starters.
