Human trafficking has become a multibillion dollar international business, second only to drug trafficking in terms of illegal earnings. In her brand-new Huffington Post blog post, our founder Anita Casalina explores the work being done around the world to bring an end to this nefarious industry.
Among the groups she highlights is the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women (CATW). Staunch advocates of what they call the “Nordic Model,” the CATW favors the criminalization of the purchase of sexual services, not the sale, as a means to end sex trafficking. By requiring the law to support these women as victims rather than treat them as criminals, this approach transforms the way society perceives women’s culpability in this age-old practice.
